Lady Bird Johnson was once the First Lady of our nation, but will always be Texas’ First Lady of Nature. She, along with actress Helen Hayes, founded the National Wildflower Research Center close to Austin, Texas and brought attention to the beauty of unappreciated wildflowers. Because of her efforts, many Texas highways are adorned with these beautiful flowers, including the Texas Bluebonnet.
